This is similar in construction to the No. 4 mallet but with a weightier, harder core yet still more articulate than a true general purpose mallet. This would be used in Classical and Romantic works where the player is required to execute sudden changes in dynamics within a phrase striving to strike a balance between articulation and tone.

This is the lightest mallet in the entire set.  This mallet provides excellent tone with great articulation.  A mallet designed for light Classical works and overtures where clarity of rhythm is critical but the player is not asked to produce heavy, extended passages such as select Mozart overtures, Haydn symphonies or French works of the late 19th and early 20th Century.
